Problems that occur during the installation of manhole covers
A road was repaved with new asphalt, but when workers reached a manhole cover, they returned after paving was completed and cut out a portion of the asphalt around it. They left such manhole covers for a few days before filling. This seems to be a danger to cyclists and cars. Is this standard practice? If so, why?
It’s a standard. When paving the road, the new asphalt may be several inches higher than the old surface. To prevent collisions, the manhole cover needs to be raised to a new level. Remove the top ring and extend the access hole to the correct height. Put the ring and cover back in place.
