A rolling scaffold cannot exceed
The height limitations for using rolling scaffolds are primarily based on the following standards.
Specific height restrictions
Independent Use Height
1. The independent erection height of mobile scaffolding (such as portal frame or wheeled mobile scaffolding) should generally not exceed 6 meters.
2. If this height needs to be exceeded, reliable reinforcement measures must be taken, such as rigid bracing to the building, adding diagonal braces, or expanding the base.
Working Platform Height and Safety Requirements
1. When the working platform height is ≥ 2 meters, edge protection guardrails must be installed (upper rail 1.0–1.2 meters, lower rail 0.5–0.6 meters).
2. The top working platform of mobile scaffolding must be fully covered with scaffolding planks, equipped with toe boards, and securely fixed.
Special Circumstances
For high-rise buildings or special projects, if standardized mobile work platforms (such as equipment with lifting mechanisms) are used, they must be designed, calculated, and approved according to a specific plan, and the maximum height must not exceed the limits specified in the relevant standards or by the manufacturer.
Safety Precautions
1. Movement Restrictions: When moving the scaffolding, no one should be standing on the platform or materials should be stacked on it. Personnel may only work on the platform after the wheel brakes are secured.
2. Foundation Requirements: The ground must be firm and level. If necessary, use base plates or adjustable bases.
3. Load Control: Overloading is strictly prohibited. Construction loads must comply with design requirements (usually ≤2.0 kN/m²).
4. Acceptance and Inspection: After erection, the scaffolding must undergo a special acceptance inspection and display a qualified tag before use.
Violation Risks
Using mobile scaffolding that exceeds height limits or without implementing reinforcement measures can easily lead to accidents such as overturning and collapse, violating the “Work Safety Law” and the “Regulations on Safety Management of Construction Projects,” and may result in rectification, penalties, and even criminal liability.
It is recommended that during actual construction, the usage height be strictly controlled based on the specific type of scaffolding and project requirements, in conjunction with the special construction plan and manufacturer’s instructions, to ensure safety.
